Police in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday were seeking the identity of a Christmas tree-stealing perpetrator who cleared out a chunk of Fraser firs destined for sale at a parking lot near a local high school.
The trees sell for about $120 each, said seasonal proprietor Suzanne Eaton. She had just received a shipment of about 300 trees, but when she arrived to process the shipment, she noticed about 50 of the firs were missing, the Associated Press reported.
It’s the first time in 27 years of selling Christmas trees that she’s ever had such a large number stolen, she said, according to AP. The stolen trees are worth about $5,000.
The theft affects more than Miss Eaton’s pocketbook. She gives a portion of proceeds to the high school’s baseball team.
