Immigration reform activists who are engaging in a much-publicized food fast to bring attention to their relaxed border and amnesty wishes got some love from the first lady late Tuesday, via a tweet of solidarity she sent that told of White House support.
“As families begin to gather for Thanksgiving, I’m thinking of the brave #Fast4Families immigration reform advocates. We’re with you. –mo,” the tweet said, and The Hill explained that Michelle Obama wrote it herself.
By “we,” the first lady probably means her presidential husband, too.
Mr. Obama said the same from San Francisco earlier this week.
“I want to say to Eliseo Medina, my friend from SEIU, and the other fasters who are there as we speak, I want them to know we hear you. We’re with you. The whole country hears you,” he said on Monday, The Hill reported.
And that was after vice president Joseph R. Biden stopped by the National Mall, where the fasters have gathered, to deliver a personal kudos last week.

“As my father would say, come hell or high water, we’re going to win this,” Mr. Biden said then.
Other visitors to the fasting scene, The Hill reported: Valerie Jarrett, the president’s leading adviser; Cecilia Munoz, the director of the White House Domestic Policy Council; and Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader.
The message of the activists: Pass immigration reform — now. Mr. Obama has put the matter to Republicans in Congress, saying he wants a measure before the end of the year.
Fast for Families, the group behind the activism, said on its website that the push is for “immigration reform and citizenship,” and for policy overhaul that opens the “path to citizenship.”
