Happy Thanksgiving; here’s a placemat. Now go talk about the need to clamp down on guns.

That’s outgoing New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s holiday message to families, with a new Mayors Against Illegal Guns-designed placemat for children that contains this headliner: “This Thanksgiving, Help Set the Table Straight,” Breitbart.com reported.

The anti-gun group, co-founded by Mr. Bloomberg, says it just wants to spark some roundtable discussions during the Thursday meal hour.

Notable on the decorative mat: The fun fact that “90 percent of Americans support background checks for all gun sales. That’s about the same percentage of Americans who enjoy eating pie.”

The table decoration also includes information that Colorado recently passed just such a background check law —and then asks the kids if they agree. Other statements: More NRA members support universal background checks than follow football, Ronald Reagan supported background checks, and political candidates who were supported by the gun lobby crowd didn’t do well in 2012 elections, Breitbart.com reported.

But, Breitbart.com said: The mat didn’t report the boondoggle that’s become Colorado’s new gun laws, cited Reagan — who supported state rights over federal overreach — out of context, and failed to provide any proof that 2012 pro-Second Amendment candidates fared poorly at the polls.
