I intend to send Secretary of State John Kerry an umbrella so that he can carry it about and more faithfully evoke his dapper mentor, Neville Chamberlain (“Iran deal: Two nuclear options in less than a week for Obama,” Web, Nov. 24).

I do not encourage others to do likewise, but if the State Department begins to fill up with cheap umbrellas, maybe the point will be made. An umbrella would make a great prop for Mr. Kerry while he makes a speech about “peace in our time” — just as Chamberlain did with regard to Germany after signing the Munich Accords with Adolf Hitler in 1938, almost one year to the day before the beginning of World War II.

Sanctions on Iran are working, and they should be maintained or increased.
