Obama on second-round schmooze-fest with Hollywood celebs

For the second day running, President Obama is staged to meet with notable Hollywood celebrities and elites and ask for money for the Democratic Party.

Tuesday morning will find him at the home of Marta Kauffman, one of the creators of the long-running television series, “Friends,” for a roundtable session with donors, The Hill reported. Then, it’s on to DreamWorks’ head honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg’s studio in Glendale, for an hour gathering among key movie executives and the president.

That studio meeting doesn’t come without its detractors, though. On Monday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest was forced to defend the studio meet from critical questioners who asked about the ethics of the president on a taxpaid trip gathering with a key campaign donor — Mr. Katzenberg, The Hill said.

Mr. Earnest said, The Hill reported: “Contributing to the president’s campaign or being a political supporter of the president doesn’t guarantee a presidential visit, but it shouldn’t exclude you from one either. The fact of the matter is when the president goes to New York to talk about the economy, it’s not unusual for the president to speak on Wall Street. When the president goes to Detroit to talk about the economy, it’s not unusual for the president to appear at an auto manufacturing facility. … And in this case, it shouldn’t be particularly surprising that the president is going to talk about the economy and the important drivers of the economy in Southern California by appearing at an entertainment facility.”

The Tuesday celebrity sessions came a day after the president attended Monday fundraising affairs at NBA’s Magic Johnson’s home and at Hollywood producer Haim Saban’s house.
