Just when things starting looking up for the Wizards on Monday with the return of Otto Porter to practice, they’re holding their breath after Bradley Beal went for tests later in the day on his right leg.
The Wizards confirmed late Monday night that Beal began complaining about soreness in his lower right leg, where he had a stress injury to his fibula, the smaller of the two bones, that prematurely ended is rookie season in April.
It wasn’t a fracture, which would’ve required surgery and put Beal on the shelf much longer.
Beal missed the Las Vegas summer league and wasn’t a full participant in a USA Basketball mini-camp as he recovered from the injury. He didn’t get cleared by the Wizards to return to full basketball-related activities until August.
He had an MRI and the results will be known Tuesday, before the Wizards play the Los Angeles Lakers at Verizon Center (CSN, 7 p.m. ET).
If Beal isn’t available, that’ll probably push Martell Webster back into the starting lineup.
Trevor Ariza, who hasn’t played the last five games because of a right hamstring strain, has been out and Webster has started at small forward in his place.
Beal leads the NBA in minutes played at 40.2 per game, slightly ahead of Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks) at 40.0
