Police in New York City arrested and charged a 28-year-old Brooklyn man with a hate crime, after he allegedly targeted and attacked an Orthodox Jewish man for a “Knockout Game” win.
Amrit Marajh was walking down the street with his friends in the early morning Friday hours, after leaving a bar, The Daily Mail reported. They were discussing the “Knockout Game” trend that’s been sweeping the nation, where attackers try to take out victims with one punch.
Shmuel Perl, 24, said he overheard the men talking — and heard when they suggested that he become their victim, The Daily Mail reported. Minutes later, Mr. Perl was attacked.
Mr. Marajh was shortly after arrested and charged with aggravated harassment and with a hate crime. His three friends weren’t charged, The Daily Mail reported.
Mr. Marajh’s attorney claims the attack wasn’t related to the “Knockout Game.”
“He makes a statement that he was punched in the side of the face,” New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly said, of the victim, The Daily Mail reported. “He also makes a statement that just prior to it, they were talking about the ’Knockout Game.’ “
