Thousands of travelers have been stranded by a deadly snowstorm plowing across the West, with even more flight disruptions expected as the storm moves East ahead of Thanksgiving.
The storm has already caused 400 flight cancellations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area — a region not historically known for big snowstorms.
“This is not Texas weather, man,” one driver told a CNN affiliate in the area. “This is Alaska or Idaho.”
The storm hasn’t shown any signs of letting up. Sleet and freezing rain pounded the Southern Plains and Southern Rockies on Monday, leading weather forecasters on even the East Coast to talk with gloom and doom about Thanksgiving travels.
The National Weather Service warned that the storm will head Monday toward the Northeast, likely leading to even more flight cancellations in New York and Boston.
Meanwhile, the cold continues to plague. Temperatures across the United States have been falling to levels that are 15 to 20 degrees below normal, weather forecasters reported.
At least 10 people have been confirmed dead due to accidents related to the weather, CNN reported.
The nasty weather is projected to last through Wednesday — except for the Northeast, which is expected be socked with a fresh round of snow on Thanksgiving Day.
