The daughters of former Vice President Dick Cheney escalated a public feud about gay marriage over the weekend, after Mary Cheney and her female partner fought back on Facebook against a perceived slight issued by Liz Cheney in an television broadcast interview.
In an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Liz Cheney again spoke out against same-sex marriage and suggested her younger sister was wrong to marry her lesbian partner, Heather Poe, a year ago.
Liz Cheney’s words, The Washington Post reported: “I love Mary very much. I love her family very much. This is just an issue on which we disagree.”
Mary Cheney and Ms. Poe took to Facebook to strike back.
“Liz has been a guest in our home, has spent time and shared holidays with our children, and when Mary and I got married in 2012 — she didn’t hesitate to tell us how happy she was for us,” Ms. Poe wrote, on the social media site. “To have her now say she doesn’t support our right to marry is offensive, to say the least.”
And Mary Cheney chimed in, The Post reported: “Liz — this isn’t just an issue on which we disagree — you’re just wrong — and on the wrong side of history.”

This isn’t the first public spat the two have waged over gay marriage. Just a few months ago, Liz Cheney, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Wisconsin, said she is “strong pro-life” and “not pro-gay marriage,” The Post said. In response, her sister took to Facebook and said Liz Cheney is “dead wrong on the issue of marriage.”
