In case Hillary Rodham Clinton was waiting on her husband’s approval and support to announce a run for the White House — she just got it. Former Presidnet Bill Clinton said on Monday at a conference in China that he most certainly would like to see a woman as president and that he felt his wife would make a capable leader.
At the same time, Mr. Clinton stayed coy on whether Mrs. Clinton would seek the higher office, Politico reported.
“I hope we have a woman president in my lifetime, and I think it would be a good thing for the world as well as for America,” Mr. Clinton said, as Agence France-Presse reported.
He made the comments in answer to a direct question about the potential for his wife to run.
“If I knew the answer to that, I couldn’t say,” he said, Politico reported. “But I can give you an honest answer: I have no idea.” He also said about his wife’s possible run, “There is no such thing as a sure thing in politics.”
But then he added this bit of praise, in case she did want the White House: that the former secretary of state is “the ablest public servant I have ever worked with” and that he supported whichever route she choses.
