PHILADELPHIA – Nick Foles completed 17 of 26 passes for 298 yards and the Philadelphia Eagles snapped a 10-game home losing streak by defeating the Washington Redskins 24-16 on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
Running back LeSean McCoy ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles (6-5), who also defeated the Redskins, 33-27, in the season opener on Sept. 9.
The Redskins (3-7) didn’t appear to make much progress since that game, even though they had 10 days to prepare for the rematch. Robert Griffin III completed 17 of 35 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns, both of which occurred in the fourth quarter.
Griffin completed a 62-yard touchdown pass to fullback Darrel Young with 12:56 remaining and then found Nick Williams, making his debut after being signed off the practice squad on Tuesday, for the ensuing two-point conversion.
Then, with 5:57 remaining, Griffin threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Aldrick Robinson, and he took the ball across the goal line on a quarterback draw to pull the Redskins within one possession.
Washington had one last drive after stopping the Eagles on three-and-out, taking over with 3:26 remaining at their own 4-yard line. They drove to the Eagles’ 18-yard line, but with 40 seconds remaining, Griffin threw an interception to Eagles cornerback Brandon Boykin in the end zone.
The Redskins’ passing game was depleted before kickoff when the team decided to deactivate Joshua Morgan, who recently had been delegated as a return specialist, in favor of Williams. Leonard Hankerson then sustained an unspecified knee injury in the second quarter, and just after halftime, tight end Jordan Reed retreated to the locker room after experiencing symptoms of a concussion.
Foles, who still has not thrown an interception this season, ran 4 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. McCoy had 1-yard touchdown runs in the second and third quarter, and Alex Henery made a 24-yard field goal, to give the Eagles a 24-0 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Running back Alfred Morris led the Redskins’ offense by gaining 93 yards on 22 attempts. Pierre Garçon had a team-high six catches for 68 yards.
Redskins inside linebacker London Fletcher started his 209th consecutive game, surpassing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks for the most consecutive starts at the position.
