I’ve finally had it with the Republican Party. Their abandonment of Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli prior to the election on Tuesday was shameful and disgusting.

This election was a possible-to-win race — had Mr. Cuccinelli had the support of the national party and the Chamber of Commerce. I have voted for every Republican president since Eisenhower, but I am giving up my Republican registration for independent status. In the “People’s Republic of Maryland,” Republicans have almost no voice in Congress.

The Republican Party no longer speaks for me; it keeps shooting its own candidates. Newly re-elected New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is just another “Democrat lite.” I don’t want to vote for Mr. Christie for president. I wish some of our strong conservative leaders would band together and start a “Conservative Party” to compete in 2016. This would be a party that would come from Democrats, Republicans and independents who are all very unhappy with both of the current parties.
