Hollywood’s Michael Moore couldn’t gush enough about New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s nationwide push for gun control.
“It’s wonderful!” he said during a groundbreaking ceremony for a cinema in the heart of a city, the New York Daily News reported. “Bloomberg is a huge threat to those guys in Washington. He’s on a tear, and I don’t think we’ve seen one-tenth of his wrath.”
Mr. Moore also decried the Senate for its failure to approve stricter gun laws, claiming senators have ignored the “will of 90 percent of the American people,” the Daily News reported.
“The only things that have polled at 90 percent [according to Public Policy Polling] are Abraham Lincoln and Jesus. Not even baseball, Mother Teresa or apple pie polls that high.”
To summarize: “So it’s just background checks, Abraham Lincoln and Jesus that Americans approve of at that level. And the Senate voted against them,” he said, as the Daily News reported.
Some polls indicate differently, however.

A late April poll by USA Today, for instance, found that public backing for gun control had fallen below the 50 percent mark in the days since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. And in early April, another poll from NBC/The Wall Street Journal found that only 55 percent backed stronger gun controls. Rewind to February, and support for new gun control laws was higher — at 61 percent in this same NBC/WSJ poll source — but still far short of the 90 percent cited by Mr. Moore.
