Police combing Cleveland kidnapping suspect Ariel Castro’s home stumbled upon a letter he supposedly wrote in which he admitted to being a sexual predator who “needs help.”
In the letter, Mr. Castro also allegedly writes of his involvement in crimes, as well as a desire to commit suicide and “give all the money I saved to my victims,” The Daily Mail reported. A 19 Action News reporter who obtained a copy of the letter and said it was dated from 2004, sent a message on Twitter: “I just got a copy of a letter written by Ariel Castro. Cops found it in his house. He says “I am a sexual predator. I need help.”
The 19 Action News reporter also tweeted: “Castro [letter] continues “I don’t know why I kept looking for another. I already had 2 in my possession.”
Later in the letter, Mr. Castro also seemed to blame his victims — Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight — for their plight, The Daily Mail reported. The reporter tweeted again: “Castro writes ’They are here against their will because they made a mistake of getting in a car with a total stranger.’ “
Police have cordoned off Mr. Castro’s house on Seymour Avenue and have removed various pieces of evidence, including ropes and chains ostensibly used to keep the women hostage over the past decade.
Mr. Castro was formally arraigned on Thursday morning on four charges of kidnapping and three of rape. The fourth kidnapping charge is due to the 6-year-old girl he held — Ms. Berry’s daughter, birthed during captivity — in the house with the women.
