An American has been rushed to the hospital after being stabbed Thursday on a street outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
The knife-wielding assailant attacked the unnamed American as he stood outside the facility, located in the neighborhood of Garden City, The Associated Press reported. Security has been relaxed at the facility in the past two years, AP reported. The State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Cairo have not yet commented.
The attacker has been arrested, AP reported. A security official speaking on condition of anonymity said the attacker is being questioned, but the official wouldn’t give further details about the incident, declining to describe either attacker or victim, AP reported.
A hospital official at al-Qasr al-Aini, where the American was taken for treatment, declined to release details on his condition, but did say he was taken to the emergency room, AP reported.
