Four were killed when a cargo ship traveling an Italian waterway slammed into a control tower at the port of Genoa, late Tuesday evening.
The tower toppled into the water, and at least four were killed, CBS reported. Another six are still missing, and some may be trapped in the tower elevator, beneath the water, emergency responders said.
Searches for survivors are continuing, Luca Cari, a spokesman for the firefighters told The Associated Press.
The crash took place during a shift change, complicating responders’ ability to account for victims and survivors, CBS reported.
By Wednesday, the remains of the tower were almost completely submerged. All that remained was the exterior staircase, CBS reported.
