Britain’s government is moving to the right, ideologically speaking. Prime Minister David Cameron and Queen Elizabeth II have joined forces to tighten up immigration policy, overhaul the pension system and reduce bureaucratic hurdles so businesses can grow.
The plans are part of the government’s legislative packages for the upcoming year, The Associated Press reported.
The Queen will be announcing the reforms on Wednesday, during the State Opening of Parliament speech. The speech is written by parliamentary members, but read by the queen, and is an event marked by much pomp and ceremony. The AP reported the 87-year-old monarch will be marking the occasion with an entrance to the parliament building via horse-drawn carriage.
The queen’s speech will highlight “bills on growth, immigration, pensions, consumer rights [and] social care,” Mr. Cameron said in the AP report.
