For the second time in two days, a hard-line Islamist party in Pakistan has been targeted by a bomber — and once again, the intended target has escaped harm.
On Tuesday, a suicide bomber pulled his motorcycle adjacent a vehicle that was transporting a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party candidate and detonated his explosive. A dozen were reported killed, The Associated Press said.
No one has yet taken responsibility for this Tuesday attack. Another 35 were injured — but Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam party candidate Mufti Syed Janan, the reported target, escaped without injury.
The bombing on Monday came by way of a Taliban group, AP reported. In that one, 25 were killed and another 70 injured when a Taliban militant placed a bomb near the main stage at a political rally held once again by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
Once again, the targeted candidate escaped injury, AP said.
Elections in Pakistan are set for May 11.
