Georgina “Gina” DeJesus, Michelle Knight and Amanda Berry have survived their abduction and confinement in a Cleveland home for years. The ordeal is over, but the details of the horrors that went on within the home is just beginning. Just hours after their release, there are reports that as many as five pregnancies may have taken place during the women’s confinement.
In a portent of things to come, Scott Taylor, a reporter for NBC affiliate WKYC in Cleveland, tweeted: “Stories from Amanda, Gina and Michelle so horrendous some Investigators had to leave interview area because they couldn’t take it.”
WKYC reports that the women were beaten and that their babies didn’t survive. Business Insider reports that a 6-year-old girl also was found with the three missing women.
“We’re happy that they have returned to us, but their absence for several years has plagued their families, Cleveland police and so many others,” Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said at a press conference on Tuesday morning. “We have several unanswered questions: why and how they were taken and why they remained undetected in Cleveland this period of time.”
Brothers Ariel, Pedro and Onil Castro have been apprehended by law enforcement in connection with the case and are awaiting charges.
