A Palestinian militant group that’s based in Syria has received the thumbs-up from President Bashar Assad to launch an attack against Israel, the organization’s spokesman said on Tuesday.
Anwar Raja, who represents the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command based in Damascus, said the militant group got the “green light … to attack Israeli targets,” The Associated Press reported.
The plan is to launch the attacks from areas of Golan Heights that are controlled by Syria, he said, in the AP report.
He did not specify how his group received the message of attack from Mr. Assad, but he said several times that no official note from the government existed, AP reported.
The majority of Palestinians in Syria have tried to remain neutral about the rebel uprising against Mr. Assad, AP reported. The PFLP-GC has been fighting with Mr. Assad’s government troops, however, to quell the rebel uprising.
