MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel weighed in on the National Rifle Association’s executive vice president Wayne LaPierre’s speech at the NRA convention over the weekend, with contributor Mike Barnicle going as far as saying the chief is capable of “inciting a riot.”
Host Mika Brzezinski played a clip of Mr. Pierre, asking, “How many Bostonians wish they had a gun two weeks ago?”
The chief garnered applause from the audience, but scrutiny from Mr. Barnicle, charging that Mr. LaPierre is only afraid of losing his power.
“If he wants to talk about frightened citizens, he is the frightened citizen,” he said. “No one in Watertown or Boston or Cambridge was sitting behind their doors frightened as Wayne LaPierre points out. He is the frightened citizen. He is frightened of losing what power he has.”
Willie Geist then asserted that the people who attended the convention are “law-abiding citizens that care about their rights and their guns,” and they are not well-represented by Wayne LaPierre.
“There’s a deliberate intent to mislead on the part of the NRA leadership. To mislead and to incite to riot almost,” Mr. Barnicle said.

Ms. Brzezinski then played a clip of Sarah Palin’s speech at the convention, to where Mr. Barnicle responded by saying the former Alaskan governor is “on a constant campaign for attention, and we’re only playing into it by showing her.”
