A Pakistani government spokesman said a bomb exploded and killed at least 14 at a pro-Taliban campaign rally on Monday.
Another 50 or so were wounded, said Javed Khan, a government official with the Kurram tribal region, The Associated Press reported. The bombing occurred in that area, which is in the northwest.
The bomb was put near the main stage at the rally, AP reported. The rally was for the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam party, and at least two of its members were able to safely escape the bombing, Mr. Khan said in the AP report.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing, AP reported.
Elections are scheduled for May 11.
