The fitness instructor for a small-town health club in Kennebunk, Maine, is heading to court Friday to receive her sentence for 20 counts related to prostitution.
Alexis Wright, 30, will get 10 months in jail for prostitution, conspiracy, tax evasion and theft by deception, The Associated Press reported. The agreement she forged with prosecutors, who originally charged her with 106 counts, requires that she pay $57,280 in restitution, too, AP reported.
Her crimes shook the small beachside community.
Ms. Wright was a Zumba fitness instructor who used her place of business to solicit paid sex from her clients. Police raided her business on Valentine’s Day in 2012, confiscating her detailed ledger and client lists — along with evidence that showed she frequently videotaped client interactions without their knowledge.
Her prostitution netted her $150,000 in 18 months, AP reported. She accumulated that sum at the same time collecting $40,000 in public assistance, police said.
Among her list of clients, AP reported: A former mayor, a high school hockey coach, a minister, lawyer and firefighter.
Ms. Wright’s partner and married father of two, Mark Strong, 57, was recently convicted of 13 charges related to prostitution and given 20 days in jail.
