DOVER, DEL (AP) - Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano both heard some familiar voices calling the shots at Dover.
They had their crew chiefs back after they served two-race suspensions for unapproved parts at the race in Texas.
Paul Wolfe returned for Keselowski, the defending series champion, and Todd Gordon was back for Logano. Penske Racing team manager Travis Geisler also was back at the track after his punishment was up.
“It was tougher to deal with then what I thought it would be,” Wolfe said. “I am a hands-on kind of guy, and for me to be able to watch the car in practice and see how it runs around other cars is important for me, visually, to see that and make decisions on what changes to make.”
With Wolfe replaced by interim crew chief Kevin Buskirk, Keselowski dropped from fourth to 10th in the standings. He’ll start eighth Sunday in the 400-mile race at Dover International Speedway.
“This is a team. It is a lot more than just me and a lot more than Paul,” Keselowski said. “It is about everybody on it.”
NASCAR inspectors confiscated parts from the rear suspensions of the cars of Keselowski and Logano before the April 13 race at Texas. NASCAR alleged the parts were not approved, while Penske maintained the parts had been approved but the organization was applying them in a way that fell in a gray area of the rule book.
“I don’t think they were necessarily picking on us,” Wolfe said. “They just happened to find where we were working and didn’t agree with it.”
