The suspect accused of killing a British soldier in broad daylight on a busy London street, by using a machete and knives, made his first court appearance on Thursday.

Michael Adebowale, 22, was handcuffed during the entire proceeding, and security was tight, The Associated Press reported. He is still recovering from a gunshot wound from police, AP said.

The hearing was brief. Mr. Adebowale only confirmed his name, address and date of birth, before the judge set his next court day — Monday, AP reported.

He’s one of two suspects accused of the grisly fatal attack of military drummer Lee Rigby. He’s also been charged with a firearms violation for possessing a 9.4 mm revolver with intent “to cause persons to believe that unlawful violence would be used,” police said, the AP reported.

His charges were read Wednesday evening, AP said.

The other suspect, Michael Adebolajo, is still in the hospital from gunshot wounds from police and has not yet been charged, AP reported.
