Police removed seven vehicles from NASCAR driver Mike Harmon’s garages Tuesday afternoon. Fellow racer Jennifer Jo Cobb reported they were stolen at the end of last year.
The stolen vehicles — two cars and five trucks — came to light after Harmon was arrested two weeks ago on a separate theft charge, WBTV reports. He was charged with breaking into Ms. Cobb’s headquarters and stealing the hauler she used to transport vehicles, WBTV reports.
Harmon has denied the allegations and said he has a strong alibi who can attest his whereabouts.
“I want it known that I have never stolen so much as a piece of bubble gum in my life,” he tweeted May 15. “I did not take JJC hauler, there is no video of me any where near her shop. Today she was the windshield & I was the bug, but when we get in FEDERAL court in a couple wks there’s a boulder coming.”
Both of the drivers are in NASCAR’s truck series. Harmon used to be the team manager for when Cobb raced for the Nationwide team, and has stated publicly that he is involved in litigation over business disagreements with Cobb unrelated to theft, WBTV reports.
Harmon was released from jail May 16 on $10,000 bond and the civil dispute will continue in federal court. He has not been charged with stealing the vehicles.
