Elementary school children who helped Michelle Obama plant her garden this year were rewarded for their labor on Tuesday with arugula salad and broccoli flatbread.
“For this harvest, the First Lady invited children from two New Jersey communities that were affected by Hurricane Sandy,” a blog posted to LetsMove.org reads. “The First Lady also invited back all the children who helped plant the garden in April so they could see the fruits of their labors.”
After picking vegetables from the garden, White House chefs prepared a salad, including arugula, spring peas and thinly-sliced radishes, the blog reads. Grilled vegetable pizzas with broccoli, chard leaves, shallots and fennel were also thrown into the mix.
The event was part of the first lady’s anti-obesity campaign “Let’s Move!”
