David H. Petraeus has hung up his CIA director hat for a new role: chairman of a group within a private equity firm that will look at world economics and chart a course of new investment.

In between, he will serve as a due diligence adviser to the company’s investment experts, CNN reported. His new company: Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., and Mr. Petreaus will lead up the firm’s new program, KKR Global Institute, CNN reported.

“I am very pleased to join such a great team,” Mr. Petraeus said in the CNN report. “I have watched KKR evolve as it adapted to the post-finanicial crisis world and became a go-to partner for companies worldwide.”

Mr. Petreaus is a yearslong acquaintance of KKR co-founder Henry Kravis, CNN reported. Mr. Petreaus, a retired military general, resigned his CIA seat in November on the heels of revelations of his affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell.

Mr. Petraeus is expected to work closely with KKR’s 2008 hire Ken Mehlman, former head of the Republican National Committee, CNN reported.
