Nearly three dozen homeowners have been evacuated from their Baton Rouge area homes, as emergency rescue responders worked to contain an oil tank explosion.
As of Friday morning, no injuries had yet been reported, The Associated Press said. The explosion occurred late Thursday evening, outside Denham Springs.
Mark Harrell, director of the state’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said two oil holding tanks are located at the site of the explosion. One ruptured and caught fire, and investigators are still seeking the reasons for the rupture, he said in the AP report.
The second oil tank didn’t explode — but it is beginning to bulge due to heat, AP reported.
The fire has been contained, however, and emergency responders are primarily working within a 200-square-foot buffer, AP reported.
