A makeshift memorial service set up by Newark, N.J., residents who were mourning a fatal car crash victim turned violent, as one of the attendees began firing into the crowd, injuring five.
Among the injured was a 10-year-old girl, police said, Raw Story reported.
The vigil was being held in the city’s South Ward, on South 16th Street. Several in attendance began arguing. One left the service, only to return a short time later to pull a gun and begin shooting, around 10 p.m., police said in the Raw Story report.
He simply stepped out his car, fired some shots and then got back in the car and drove away, witnesses told police.
On Friday, police said they were still investigating and had not yet identified either suspect or motive, Raw Story reported.
The injured included a 10-year-old girl, shot in the ankle, and a 22-year-old woman, shot in the rear. Also shot and taken for treatment: A 25-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, with shots to the arms, and a 48-year-old man, wounded in both of his legs, Raw Story said.
