House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday at an event in Little Rock, Ark., that she prays former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will run for president, saying it would send a powerful message to women in the world.
“I pray that Hillary Clinton decides to run for president of the United States,” Mrs. Pelosi said during a wide-ranging discussion at the Clinton School of Public Service. “Nobody has been first lady and senator and now secretary of state. Putting everything aside that she is a woman, she’d be the best qualified person that we’ve seen [in recent years].”
Mrs. Pelosi said she does not know whether Mrs. Clinton will run but that she is the most qualified nominee, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
Emily’s List, a national group that focuses on electing pro-choice women, launched a campaign Thursday aiming to put the first woman in the White House that coincided with a poll showing Mrs. Clinton as the overwhelming favorite to win the 2016 Democratic nomination for president.
In making the announcement, Stephanie Schriock, president of the group, said the nation is ready for a female president and is “hopeful” Mrs. Clinton will take another stab at the Oval Office.
