A Massachusetts high school girl injured in the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings was just crowned queen at her high school prom.
Sydney Corcoran, 18, was standing with her mother at the finish line of the Boston race when the bombs detonated. Her foot was mangled, and her mother lost both legs, Fox News reported. She thought the prom was out of the question — until rehab started and she gained the strength and courage to give it a try.
“There’s some tough days, and yesterday, I had kind of a down day, but you just get through those days and you just power on, and the next day is another day, and it is prom day,” she said, in the Fox News report. “So you can’t be sad on prom day.”
Her foot was numb, and she was on crutches, but Ms. Corcoran attended the dance — and was crowned queen. Her hope is to lose the crutches for next week’s high school graduation ceremonies and head on to Merrimack College for studies in psychology, Fox News said.
