Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev telephoned his mother from his heavily guarded hospital room at Fort Devens in Massachusetts: Don’t worry. All is well.
His mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, said to Bloomberg that her son told her on the phone: “I am absolutely fine. My wounds are healing. Everything is in God’s hands. Be patient. Everything will be fine.”
Tsarnaev, 19, is recovering from gun wounds from the April 15 bombing that killed three and injured more than 250. His brother, and second bombing suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed in a shootout with police on April 19.
His mother expressed concern about his mental state, Bloomberg reported.
“Mentally he is normal, but the child is shocked. It was really hard to hear him and for him to hear me. The conversation was very quiet,” she said in the report. “It was my child. I know he is locked up like a dog, like an animal.”
The phone conversation lasted six minutes — and it came at a time when one of Tsarnaev’s sisters faced a court hearing on drug charges.
The Daily Mail reported that Bella Tsarnaeva pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. She was charged with drug possession after police responded to her apartment in December over a domestic violence call, her attorney said, in the Daily Mail.
