Five teens were killed in a fiery Memorial Day crash the split their car in half, Southern California police said.
The Orange County Register said the teens’ names and ages were expected to be released later Tuesday, pending notification of families.
A police spokeswoman from the Newport Beach force, Kathy Lowe, said the teens were riding in an Infiniti sedan when it veered off the road Monday night, into a tree, The Associated Press reported. The vehicle was split in half from the crash, and subsequently caught on fire.
Four of the riders were ejected and died at the scene, police said, in the AP report. The fifth — only partially ejected — was taken to the hospital for treatment. That victim later died, Ms. Lowe said, in the AP report.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, the cause of which was still under investigation on Tuesday.
