A 6-month-old baby was fatally shot by a Chicago suspect who was taking revenge for the theft of his video-game console, police said.
Koman Willis, 33, was arrested in March on charges of killing Jonylah Watkins, 6 months, and on shooting the girl’s father, Jonathan Watkins, 29, United Press International reported. The suspect is due in court on Tuesday for a bond hearing.
His motive, police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said: Mr. Willis was accused of taking “retaliation for a stolen video game system,” UPI reported. Mr. Willis believed Mr. Watkins burglarized his mother’s home and stole a PlayStation video game console, police said, in the report.
The console was subsequently sold to a resident in the neighborhood, police said, in the Chicago Tribune.
Mr. Willis is a convicted felon with more than three dozen arrests, starting in 1996, UPI reported. Police say he started questioning neighborhood residents about his PlayStation and about Mr. Watkins’ suspected theft. Mr. Willis found Mr. Watkins and his baby in a parked minivan, and opened fire, police said, in the UPI report.
