One of New York’s most heavily traveled bridges is up and running again after a suspicious vehicle forced a holiday closing and snarled traffic for hours.
Police on Tuesday gave the “all clear” for traffic to proceed normally across Brooklyn Bridge. Travel had been halted for an hour Monday evening because of call of a suspicious vehicle, CBS New York reported. Bomb squad members searched and then took possession of an abandoned SUV that was parked in the middle of the bridge, headed toward Manhattan.
Traffic was a nightmare, beginning around 5 p.m. on Memorial Day.
“Definitely a little scary,” said one witness at the time, in The New York Post.
The all-clear was given around 7 p.m., but it took hours for the rush-hour and holiday traffic to clear.
