A 2-day-old Chinese baby boy who was flushed down the toilet has been rescued and transported to a hospital in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
State-run television on Tuesday reported the newborn was recovering and listed in stable condition. Authorities are trying to locate his parents who are suspected of flushing him, The New York Daily News reported.
Firefighters cut out the sewage pipe section and transported the baby — still in the pipe — to the hospital for treatment over the weekend. Doctors ultimately removed the baby from the pipe; his placenta was still attached, The Daily News said.
The boy was discovered on Saturday, after neighbors heard a baby’s cry and went to investigate. They found his small body wedged inside a sewage pipe that serves a block of apartment buildings in Jinhua, The Daily News reported.
Posters on China’s Twitter-like service were outraged.
“The parents who did this have hearts even filthier than that sewage pipe,” one poster wrote, the Daily News said.
