The 2014 NFL draft will be held May 8-10 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, the league announced Tuesday.

The official reason for the expected move is a scheduling conflict at Radio City, but many observers see the NFL trying to expand its reach even further across the calendar year by bumping the draft back two weeks from its usual spot the last weekend in April.

No decision has been made regarding future dates, the NFL said, but a “variety of alternatives” are being explored — including moving the draft to other sites in New York and beyond.

The rest of the league calendar remains the same. The combine will be held in Indianapolis Feb. 18-25, 2014, and the new league year and free agency will begin March 11.
