A man who led law enforcement Sunday on a chase through two Texas counties in a violent shooting spree that left a woman dead and five injured has been killed in a dramatic showdown with police.
Police with nine different state and local agencies chased the suspect, who was identified as a 23-year-old man from North Carolina, NBC reported. His name is being withheld pending notification of family. The shootout through McCulloch and Concho counties spanned nearly two hours, NBC said. The man just began firing at cars through his truck window, police said.
He was eventually killed in a shootout with a state trooper and a game warden on a highway outside Eden — but not before he fatally shot two, including a 41-year-old woman and a Concho County sheriff, and injured five, NBC reported. Police found hundreds of ammunition rounds in his truck, as well as a handgun and an assault-type weapon, NBC reported.
Police said they were investigating “multiple crime scenes,” and don’t yet know the motive, NBC said.
