To tea party activists, the upside of the IRS scandal blowing through the White House is simple: More and more are giving money, time and voice to the limited-government cause.
“We’re definitely seeing a spike in both interest and contributions,” said Sal Russo, co-founder of the California-based Tea Party Express, to Fox News.
A recent poll broadcast on Fox News on Monday confirmed: Now, 44 percent of likely voting Americans hold a favorable view of the tea party. That’s up from 30 percent a few months ago, the Rasmussen poll said.
Questions still remain whether that favorability factor will translate into votes in 2014. But the faith-in-government factor is a huge deal that crosses party lines — and hits especially hard when dealing with the much-hated IRS.
“This and some of the other recent stories really cut into the heart of President Obama’s agenda, which is faith in government,” said Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen polling, to Fox News. “And his health care plan is tied to the IRS. The large question is will the Democrats’ brand remain tainted.”
