A well-known Syrian journalist working for a government television station was shot and killed Monday by a sniper stationed at the border with Lebanon.
Yara Abbas, a reporter for the pro-government al-Ikhbariya station, was fatally shot in Homs province, near Debaa airport — which President Bashar Assad has been trying to recapture for months, Reuters reported.
Ms. Abbas was a well-known face to Syrian television viewers. She was frequently videotaped alongside Mr. Assad’s government forces, during frontline fighting in the two-year conflict, Reuters reported.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said several members of her camera and broadcast team were also injured in the sniper attack, Reuters reported.
