National Transportation Safety Board investigators are in Missouri looking for the reasons of a highway bridge collapse — the second such structure to give way in the past week.
Seven people were injured, The Hill reported.
Now transportation officials at both state and federal levels are calling for more funding to revamp American’s aging infrastructure, The Hill said.
The bridge in Missouri connects roads through Scott County. It crumbled early Saturday morning after two freight trains crashed on tracks that run beneath it, and parts of the train hit one of the bridge’s support pillars, The Hill reported.
This bridge incident comes on the heels of another bridge collapse in Washington state. Then, a trucker carrying a too-heavy load was faulted for collapsing a well-traveled bridge, used by nearly 71,000 commuters and drivers per day.
NTSB officials said the trains in Missouri that crashed were owned by Union Pacific freight rail and by BNSF, The Hill said.
