Rupert Murdoch left some people outraged and others scratching their heads on Sunday when he took to Twitter to quote verses from the Koran.
“Get real. Koran says(1) ’whoever killed a human being…it shall be regarded as having killed all mankind…’” the Fox News mogul tweeted.
“Koran(2) ’except as punishment for murder or other villainy’ then defined as “those who wage war against Allah” punishable by beheading,” he added.
Mr. Murdoch’s comments come after he criticized British Prime Minister David Cameron for taking a week-long vacation in Ibiza, just days after a British soldier was beheaded by two extremists on the streets of southeast London.
“With UK on terror alert, Cameron off on holiday in Ibiza. Unbelievable,” Mr. Murdoch tweeted on Saturday.
“Many UK tweeters say no terror. Admirable, gutsy, but get real and go listen at some mosques. Admit most okay, but others really scary,” he added.
British soldier Lee Rigby was walking near the Royal Artillery Barracks in the Woolwich section of London on Wednesday when he was hit by a car. Two men exited the car and held the soldier against a wall, then stabbed and decapitated him with kitchen knives and a meat cleaver, according to British media reports.
One of the two suspects arrested at the scene approached a man filming the scene and suggested that the soldi er had been targeted only “because Muslims are dying daily” at the hands of British troops such as him, CNN reports. British officials are treating the gruesome crime as a terrorist act.
