A fire on a cruise ship off the Florida coast was contained early Monday, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said.
A ship spokesman for the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas said that damage had been contained to a small area of the structure, NBC reported. Specifically, the blaze didn’t go past the third deck, of the 11-deck ship.
Nobody was injured, the Coast Guard said.
The fire was rated “Class A,” meaning it started from wood or plastic, or other solid and combustible materials, and not fuel or flammable liquids.
The Grandeur of the Seas, which recently underwent $48 million in renovations, is just one of 41 ships operated by the Royal Caribbean. The ship weighs 74,000 tons. It was carrying 2,224 passengers and 796 crew and staff when the fire broke out. The ship was traveling to Coco Cay, Bahamas, NBC reported.
