A San Francisco gun shop dealer said keeping 9 millimeter ammunition on store shelves is pretty much a lesson in futility.
A box of 9mm ammunition “has a shelf life of about five minutes,” said Steve Alcairo, the general manager of High Bridge Arms, as quoted by Breitbart.
High Bridge Arms is the only gun shop in the city, Breitbart said. And to put in context, Mr. Alcairo said it used to take much longer to sell the ammunition.
“It used to take us a month to sell 5,000 rounds,” he said, in Breitbart. “Now we go through that in a week — when we can get them.”
His story is being repeated throughout the United States — and not just by gun store dealers. Wal-Mart retail has reported challenges keeping shelves stocked of certain ammunition, and police departments are struggling, too, Breitbart said.
Ammunition manufacturers, meanwhile, say they have expanded operations and are making bullets around the clock.
