A Utah teenage boy has been arrested and charged with homicide in the death of his two adopted brothers, ages 4 and 10.

The boys were found stabbed to death inside their house, police said Thursday, CNN reported. The 15-year-old teen — the eldest of six and a biological son in the family — had been babysitting the boys.

The mother had gone out with the other children and the father was serving on military duty in Alabama, said Sheriff Todd Richardson, on CNN. The mother returned home Wednesday evening and found her 4-year-old and 10-year-old in separate parts of the house, both dead. The 15-year-old was missing and at first, police couldn’t decide if he was a victim or suspect.

Police found him hours later, walking down the road with blood stains on his clothing, CNN reported.

The teen spoke with police “pretty bluntly,” investigators said, CNN reported. He was subsequently arrested on two homicide charges, though police still don’t know what the teen’s motive was.

“He had been interviewed by one of our detectives … and as time goes on, it will be released as to why he did what he did,” the sheriff said in the CNN report.
