New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun group, keeping its word to go after vulnerable Republican seats, launched on Friday a $350,000 ad campaign against Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor.
The Friday buys include broadcast and cable airtime, Politico reported. The campaign will last through June 6.
Mr. Bloomberg’s group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, has narrowed on Republicans who voted against a recent piece of legislation that would have required background checks for all potential gun buyers. The bill failed in the Senate.
Republicans expect the 2014 political climate to be tough, and some GOP analysts are worried the group’s money — and its public relations push to paint conservatives as gun-happy — could prove the lucky break for Democrats. Group members have already started a similar ad campaign attacking Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, Politico reported.
