Iran is moving forward with a contested uranium-enrichment program, a slap in the face to the West which has charged the nation with unlawful pursuit of nuclear weaponry.
Three diplomats confirm Iran has started up its nuclear development again, The Associated Press reported. They say Tehran has put in an estimated 700 high-tech centrifuges to its uranium-enrichment plants since January — and 100 since April alone, AP said.
The international community has spent years on diplomatic talks with Iran, trying to convince the nation to abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Iran, for its part, insists its uranium-enrichment program is aimed at providing energy for its citizens,and is used for peaceful purposes only.
The diplomats who confirmed the nuclear development insisted on anonymity, but were all affiliated with the International Atomic Energy Agency, AP said.
