Embattled, scandal-ridden Anthony Weiner has thrown his hat in the ring for mayor of New York City.

“I made some big mistakes, and I know I let a lot of people down,” Mr. Weiner said, in a video he posted on his website late Tuesday. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons.”

Mr. Weiner’s congressional career came to abrupt halt when he resigned over sexually suggestive photos he posted of himself on his Twitter account. He’s been a rumored mayoral candidate for weeks.

“I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it my entire life,” he said in his video. “I hope I get a second chance to work for you.”

The video includes his wife and son. His wife, Huma Abedin, used to work for former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
