Israeli’s military warned on Tuesday that more strikes on Syria could be coming if the nation doesn’t stand down its missile attacks.
The IDF said Syria launched against Israel three times in three days — and the fact that the launches all stemmed from the same location and went forth about the same time proves that they were intentional, and not simple spillover from the country’s internal civil unrest, Ynet reported. So Israel finally launched a counter-attack on Tuesday, taking out a Syrian post. And now IDF heads are saying more will come, if Syria doesn’t back off.
“We will not allow the Golan Heights to become a comfortable space for [President Bashar] Assad to operate from,” said Israeli Defense Forces Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, in a USA Today story. His remarks came after a Syria shot damaged an Israeli jeep parked inside the Golan territory, which is controlled by Israel.
He added, about the Syrian president: “If he deteriorates the Golan Heights, he will have to bear the consequences,” USA Today reported.
Israeli lawmakers say that while they don’t expect an outright war with Syria, they do realize that the days of peace have ended.
“I don’t expect a war with Syria in the north, but the tranquility since 1975 is over,” said parliamentary member Nachman Shai, in the USA Today report. “We should be ready for a different situation in the Golan Heights.”
